2011 Volvo V60 Review

Volvo V60 made its entry into the automotive market with its views firmly committed to providing the model for all new S60 sedan, a fierce battle on the track "the most dynamic Volvo model ever."

"Many clients who had an advance look at the new V60 during its development, believes that its position is just as sporty as the new S60," says Volvo Cars Design Director Peter Horbury.

Not less than 90 percent of annual production of 50,000 Volvo V60 cars will find buyers in Europe.

"The typical customer is a sports car buyer S60 wishing more space and flexibility, but without any compromise on sporty design and exciting driving performance," says Volvo Cars President and CEO Stephen Odell adding:

"Competition is fierce and customers in this segment, you know exactly what they want. Accordingly, we have further enhanced the interior a sense of unique quality and packed in a car safety and convenience associated with technical innovations. The result is a unique sports car, in total harmony of its athletic attitude. "

That the station wagon Coupe

The pronounced wedge shape and roofline sleek coupe-like the new Volvo V60 is accompanied by the shoulder along the car sides and creates a wave of gentle but powerful twin headlights front to rear back.

"From the design standpoint, the focus has been to make the car near a cut as possible, while convenient extra space at the back. Our sport wagon is not designed to compete with the traditional estate . For the customer who wants a lot of cargo space that is our V70 and XC70, "says Örjan Sterner, director of exterior design for the new Volvo V60. He added:" The dip in the middle of the double wave pushes visually car down, which improves the position and makes the car look sleeker and lower the sculpted hood and short overhangs front and rear also emphasizes the sports car feel ... "

Uncompromising approach chassis

Experts chassis Volvo Cars have cut into the driving experience in the new Volvo V60 with the same passion and uncompromising approach that has characterized the development of the new S60 sedan.

The result is an authentic sports car driving while properties that do justice to the sporty lines.

"We pushed the envelope far we have not previously addressed. You only need to drive this car to understand how we should guide the development of its platform at the top. Take the car out of the country road, where every turn brings a new challenge and a V60 new to show agility, bubbly enthusiasm, "says Stefan Sällqvist, which led to the development of the chassis of the new Volvo V60.

Volvo Sport Wagon is available with a choice of two chassis. The European markets have recently developed a dynamic start is standard, while some other markets, is making the start of a dynamic alternative to a standard accessory.

The difference between the two chassis variants is in shock absorbers and front and rear brackets. Alternative tourism here has a slightly softer side to give a smooth ride in the poorest of the pavement.

Full details

"The power has been given on the concept of comfort an entirely new dimension. Dynamic chassis has an alarm, the rapid nature spots, which focuses on the driving experience, but without diluting the ride comfort, "says Stefan Sällqvist.

Besides the two standard chassis, all variants of the Volvo V60 can be specified with the FOUR-C (Continuously Controlled Chassis Concept) active chassis, which has been modified and refined for better control and comfort over previous Volvo.

The software on the AWD (All Wheel Drive) has been amended to allow variants wheel drive (AWD is standard on the T6 and D5 with optional automatic transmission) of the new Volvo V60 sport chassis exploit the new limit.

During the development team has worked on the chassis for the new Volvo V60 in parallel with the all new Volvo S60. The result is a solution that contains changes and adjustments to virtually every detail that affects vehicle handling. This will include better management, bushes and stiffer springs and more cushioning than any previous Volvo.

The first sport wagon advanced stability control

A new dynamic platform to support the various electronic systems to refine a sporty driving experience even more.

As with all new S60, the new V60 is equipped with the Advanced Stability Control. When a new roll of the sensor can detect any tendency to skid in a very early stage. This means that the WSP can intervene earlier and more accurately. Advanced stability control is a great resource for the driving dynamics of a significant lateral force, which improves management and avoid rapid movements.

The new traction control during cornering flatter Corner

Traction Control Corner is a new feature that uses the car phone though few corners more easily. This technology is a new improved system dynamic stability and traction control (DSTC).

In turn, the wheels of the car braked internal drive, more power to be transmitted to the outside wheel. This allows drivers to corner more closely and reduce any tendency to understeer.

Advanced braking system is an important part of the dynamic driving characteristics of the new Volvo V60. Volvo Sport Wagon has many new features that work together to provide maximum stopping distance in all scenarios.

Exclusive quality - and the additional functions

The interior of the sports car Volvo V60 is a clear example of how Volvo Cars designers have added tension, contrast, and a playful element to the Scandinavian design tradition of simplicity and functionality wise.

"The interior design is an extrovert attitude clear, but without practical Scandinavian roots. New Volvo V60 brings us to a whole new level when it comes to experience a full color, shape, materials and technology," says the director of Volvo Cars design, Peter Horbury.

The interior is so nice compared to its details, driver-focused, but it's still a five-seater offers a comfortable space for all occupants. Scandinavian design is the rationality, simplicity, clarity and functionality are all prominent in the new V60:

* 40/20/40-split folding rear seat and front passenger seat can be combined with the flexibility of passengers and trucks. Each of the three-fold rear seat back is folded in one of the best easy to create a completely flat load floor. The rear seat head restraints can be folded electrically.

* The load area is designed for maximum use of every inch available. The tailgate 1095 mm wide in combination with additional space behind the wheel and under the cargo floor is an example of the systematic approach to ensure a generous carrying capacity. Surface charge has a capacity of 430 liters.

* The rear seat can be specified with integrated child booster cushion in the two outer seats.

High-tech Volvo ever - and pedestrian detection

The interior sports new Volvo V60 is the most advanced technology ever available in the Volvo driver.

"The interior of the new Volvo V60 is all about the innovative design in two areas. Form and design of technology is characterized by the cool sport in detail the technological aspect covers all intelligent solutions that contribute a driving experience unlike her. Any second Volvo - safety and collision systems for infotainment comfort and audio quality of absolute world class, "says Tomas Ahlborg, Project Director for the new Volvo V60.

pedestrian detection with automatic braking in the middle can detect if a pedestrian is on the road in front of the car. If the driver does not react, the car can automatically activate the brakes.

"Volvo has always been when it comes to protecting passengers in the car. In recent years we have developed innovative initiatives that help the driver avoid collisions with other vehicles. Now we are taking a huge step forward in technology that may affect the safety of users vulnerable road, such as, "says Thomas Broberg, Senior Safety Advisor, Volvo Cars.

To avoid collisions at speeds below 35 km / h

In an emergency the driver first receives a warning sound, combined with a flashing light in the head-up display windshield. To induce an immediate and intuitive response to this warning looks like a stoplight. Meanwhile, the car is pre-loaded. If the driver does not react to the warning and a crash is imminent, is full braking power automatically.

Pedestrian detection fully automatic braking to avoid collisions with pedestrians up to 35 km / h if the driver does not react in time. At higher speeds, focus on reducing the speed of the car as much as possible before impact. The speed can be reduced to 25 km / h.

Statistics show that vehicle speed has great importance for the result of the accident. A lower rate of energy means that the risk of injury greatly reduced.

City Safety Standards

The new Volvo V60 is a standard City Safety.

With City Safety, the car automatically brakes if the driver does not react in time when the vehicle in front slows or stops - or if he or she runs too fast towards a stationary object. The system can reduce or even eliminate the low-speed rear impacts at speeds up to 30 km / h.

More powerful version T6

During his first year of production, the new Volvo V60 will be available with a variety of diesel and gasoline engines across the range of a cheaper version of 115 hp driving a desire for high-performance turbo version producing 304-horsepower . The reader goal of reducing CO2 emissions reduced fuel consumption across the range of engines.

The T6 petrol engine is a displacement of 3.0 liters and must be further improved, mainly due to less internal friction. Now, pumps 304 hp and as much as 440 Nm of torque. Acceleration from 0-100 km / h in 6.6 seconds and top speed is limited to 250 km / h.

At the same time, the experts at Volvo have managed to reduce fuel consumption by about 10 percent of 10.2 l/100 km (combined cycle).

Engine power is transmitted to the wheels via Volvo's Geartronic six-speed generation second automatic transmission. New valves and lower friction means faster gear changes than before. AWD (All Wheel Drive) is standard on the T6.

New direct injection engines of two liters

The new four-cylinder 2.0T GTDi (gasoline turbocharged direct injection) engine has a displacement of two liters and produces 203 horsepower generous, with 300 Nm of torque available from 1,750 rpm. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 7.9 seconds with a manual gearbox and 8.4 seconds with automatic transmission. Top speed is limited to 230 kmh with manual transmission and 230 km / h with the automatic.

We developed a new proprietary technology, turbocharged, direct injection and dual variable camshaft to produce a unique combination of low fuel consumption, low emissions and a range of high performance and wide, all in a compact package.

Later, during the first year of production, the new Volvo V60 is also available GTDi 2.0 delivers 240 hp and 320 Nm of torque.

Two new 1.6-liter engines GTDi

In addition, a new 1.6-liter GTDi is available in two versions: 1.6 GTDi (T3) with 150 horsepower and 180 horsepower with the T4.

180 hp offers a torque of 240 Nm at just 1500 rpm to 5000 rpm. Overboost for short-term, it offers an impressive 270 Nm of torque. This provides an excellent ability to lug the whole lap. The torque curve is relatively mild, which is particularly comfortable driving experience.

The engine delivers 150 hp 240 Nm of torque.

The 2.0T, T5 and T4 are available in combination with six-speed automatic transmission gearbox or Volvo's Powershift six-speed manual, while the T3 comes with a manual transmission.

Two five-cylinder turbodiesel

The engine range also includes two five-cylinder turbodiesel.

The D5 engine with dual high-performance turbo produces 205 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 7.9 seconds (manual and automatic). The maximum speed is 230 km / h (limited) with manual transmission and 230 km / h with the automatic.

In the latest version of D5, which was introduced in spring 2009, the requirements of performance and driveability is completed with the installation of two turbochargers of different sizes, one takes over and provide the added energy through a wider rev range.

Additional properties in the two turbos maximized for a combination of high performance and low fuel consumption of 5.4 l/100 km (EU combined) to put this engine in the race for best in class.

It is also the newly developed D3 two-liter, 163 hp and 400 Nm of torque. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 9.4 seconds (manual and automatic). The maximum speed is 220 km / h (manual) and 215 km / h (automatic).

2.0D a new five-cylinder engine is basically the same as the current 2.4D, but the stroke volume is reduced when a shorter stroke to optimize fuel consumption.

Both turbo-diesel is available in six-speed automatic or six-speed manual.

D5 automatic four-wheel drive can be specified.

diesel DRIVe

During the first year of production, DRIVe versions of the new Volvo V60 also has, with a 1.6-liter diesel engine. The engine produces 115 hp and 270 Nm of torque and will only be available with a six-speed manual transmission.

Completely new infotainment system

The new V60 is also a completely new infotainment system in which the data are presented on the screen or seven inches by five inches, the instrument panel. The display has a high status, which will help the driver keep his eyes on the road.

The audio experience in the new Volvo V60 has improved compared to previous models.

"Our most advanced system, Premium Sound, has a 5x130 W amplifier with Class D digital circuits-Anaview Sweden, combined with Dolby Digital Surround Dolby Pro Logic II, winner of Audyssey Laboratories MultEQ and speakers 12. All this creates an experience of absolute world class audio, "says Tomas Ahlborg.

The Volvo V60 is one of the models in the car for the first time to use Audyssey Laboratories MultEQ technology. MultEQ removes sound distortion caused by the car's passenger compartment, providing clear, crisp sound with improved for all in the car.

Besides the high-end Premium Sound, which comes with a 7 inch screen, there are three other sound systems.

European public

The initial annual target for the new Volvo V60 is 50,000 cars. They share not less than 90 percent to European buyers. The five largest markets are Sweden, the United Kingdom, Netherlands, Italy and Germany.

The new Volvo V60 is based on the production of the Volvo Cars factory in Torslanda, Sweden. The first vehicles will be delivered to customers in the fall of 2010.

. The figure "60" today in our portfolio shows our model XC60 Sport model was the first step we have taken the next step with any new S60 sedan -. And we are now launching the Volvo V60 sports wagon " said Stephen Odell.
